The Heart of the Matter: Smarts Vs. Kindness

I've met plenty of people who were smart but I never valued it as much as person who's both smart and kind. There's something in their manner of kindness that gives off a humble feel that they would associate with anyone no matter their circumstance. I find that more becoming of a person than one who can rattle off facts.    There is such a girl I grew up around. I rarely met another jewel like her. She's smart, kind, beautiful, talented and fun-loving which makes her personality more appealing. I can't release her name because she doesn't even know I'm writing this about her and I wouldn't want every guy in the country flooding her door. Her warmth, kindness and smarts made me want to look up to her as an example of the type of woman I would like to become.    Growing up I wanted to be revered as an equal to the boys so I'm not as dainty as she. I'm a little bit more rambunctious and opinionated and it's expected seeing as though we a

180 Day of May

What's this "Life" tape all about? It’s not a protest. It’s a prayer meeting. A Silent Siege is a stand in silent prayer on behalf of the nation that is murdering its children. We are standing in agreement with Jesus, the Great Intercessor, concerning the holocaust of abortion. We believe the Life Tape is a divine strategy from the Lord to both mobilize a massive movement of prayer and also to be a faithful witness to the nation. Nearly every media news source has taken hold of the image of the Life Tape and spread it everywhere. It has become a phenomenon that catches the eyes and hearts of the world. Truly, a picture is worth a thousand words. Political leaders and public policy have been directly impacted. Young women seeking abortions have experienced the love of God and chosen not to abort their babies. Laws are changing, and lives are being saved. When LIFE is written on a piece of red tape and placed over our mouths, we are identifying with the silence

Reblogged: “Tonight We Are Young! What About Tomorrow?” by Jimmy Needham

blogged from Jimmy Needham I consider myself to be something of a student of pop-culture. I try to stay up to speed with the latest trends, songs, clothing etc. I like having a pulse on where my generation is at so I can be more equipped to contextualize the gospel for them. Lately I’ve noticed a trending topic in Top 40 radio. I suppose it’s always a topic of interest but a number of huge songs over the past few months have built their theme around one thing. Have you noticed too? See if you can spot it: “Tonight we are young/ So lets set the world on fire/ We can burn brighter than the sun/” (We Are Young ft. Janelle Monet) “So what we go out/ That’s how it’s supposed to be/ Living young and wild and free/” (Young, Wild & Free ft. Bruno Mars) “Let’s go all the way tonight/ No regrets, just love/ We can dance until we die/ You and I, we’ll be young forever/” (Teenage Dream by Katy Perry) It’s interesting to me reading these lines, how short sighted we can be as a culture

Reblogged: "Drag Me To Heaven" by Alex McFarland

blogged from Pluggedin "God is love, and the God I believe in would never send someone to hell!"  The audience applauded enthusiastically as the TV talk-show host passionately stated her position about the afterlife. A panel of guests had been assembled to explain various views about death, heaven, hell and God's judgment. Of those authors and scholars, only one individual defended the biblical teaching about hell. And as the show progressed, both audience and interviewer seemed increasingly hostile to the lone evangelical panelist. But why? From action flicks such as  Ghost Rider  and  Spawn  to horror films including  The Omen  and  Drag Me to Hell,  Hollywood has scared up a lot of money over the years by depicting devils, demons and a fiery afterlife. Yet surveys show that, here in the West, belief in a literal hell is at an all-time low. And its most vocal opponents include some clergy. Scary, huh? Maybe all those creepy movies have conditioned people

Love It or Leave It: Film Reviews 6

Image
It's about Avengers DO NOT READ THIS UNLESS YOU DON'T MIND SPOILERS. TURN BACK NOW IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT!! YOU'VE BEEN WARNED. LOL Moving on... I'm doing features right now since I haven't been doing my LoVeIt or LeaVeIt series regularly in a while. I'd like to thank Douglas for looking forward to my review. That gave me motivation to stop being lazy and write. Like always instead of using stars to rate I use ♥ (hearts) meaning I love it and to represent leave it I chose this symbol: ☞ (pointing hand). Avengers Story The action plot was awesome but the story was lacking. I believe the underlying value of the story was teamwork which I think could've been portrayed a little better. Although they kept saying "human" throughout the film I felt the only real connection to humans was made through Agent Phil Coulson and his parts weren't long. I'm still sad about that. I loved his scenes. Action The novel

Pride & Idolatry

Many including myself suffer from pride. We look to what we've accomplished and boast about it, trust in our abilities and celebrate ourselves. In doing that, not only are we being prideful by not giving glory to our Creator, " who holds in his hand your life and all your ways " but we are worshipping ourselves, which is idolatry. There's a good example of this in Daniel 4 that I wanted to share with you all. Daniel 4 New International Version 1984 (NIV1984) Nebuchadnezzar’s Dream of a Tree 4 King Nebuchadnezzar, To the peoples, nations and men of every language, who live in all the world: May you prosper greatly!    2 It is my pleasure to tell you about the miraculous signs and wonders that the Most High God has performed for me.    3 How great are his signs, how mighty his wonders! His kingdom is an eternal kingdom; his dominion endures from generation to generation.    4 I, Nebuchadnezzar, was at home in my palace, contented and prosperous
